Installing a shower pan is a project that a reasonable person can do by hand. It is a step by step procedure that can be learned. There are some tricks, but once you know the basics you can do it right the first time.

A properly constructed shower pan should last for decades with little maintenance. If you use the traditional method for the construction of the shower you can have a beautiful tile shower custom made to fit your location and with only the tile designs you choose. The shower pan is two layers of masonry over a waterproof membrane with ceramic tiles in the top.

Start with a solid ground. Some people put down Hardibacker board basis if appropriate. On the solid ground to roof coating crimped to hold the mortar mix.

Fold the membrane into the corners and then cut a hole in the road for drainage. Paste the membrane at the top of the drainage base. This is the waterproof layer for the soil.

The layer of mortar of the day, is poured over the membrane and sloped for drainage. Before pouring the layer, put gravel over the drainage holes to keep below the bottom of open drainage. Now, this layer dry.

Finally, flat in your thinset, then lay the tile and grout.

Let dry and your shower floor is ready. The soil is usually sealed to the walls with caulk. And most of the people like to seal the grout on the floor with a regular grout sealer. Be sure to keep the floor mastic seal to the wall and periodically re-seal the grout.

I have a tile floor and painted plaster panels for the enclosure. How do I complete the shower?

Do need have a water barrier applied to the walls, or ceramic are filled enough? Is there a liquid that can be "painted" which will that the water tested without tiling?
