Laying Tiles Using Easy Steps

Good Original Surface

The original surface on which the tiles would be laid has to be smooth and should not have any loose ends or edges. The new floor may come out good with proper tiling techniques, but floppy edges of the surface below can lead to incorrect tiling which results in a not so good appearance in the end. The covering below not only needs to be flat but clean so that the adhesive works its way. You are required to plain down all the high spots and even remove any loose boards incase of wooden floors. Rough spots manage to steadily ruin the aesthetic look of the floor.

Cleaning the Original Surface

Next in line is the cleaning part. A good cleaning chemical can be used during the cleaning process to clean the concerned original surface. Remove the grease, wax, oil and other forms of dirt with the cleaner. Using an environment friendly chemical is highly recommended. All the adhesives have problems when it comes to oil or any other sticky form of dirt. Even in the cases where the adhesive manages to fuse, the tiling won't be good.

Laying the First Tile

It is not advised to lay tiles on already existing vinyl tiles or quarry tiles. The next step requires you to locate the center. Drawing lines using chalks is an easy way to locate the center of a room. The advantage of starting from the center of a room is that the cut tiles would end against the wall which gives a better chance for rough edges to be hidden.

Then, you need to put some tiles on the floor to get a rough idea. Some patterns may require a slight shift to adjust the pieces near the wall. Now you need to mark the area where you need to lay the center tile. Mix the cement properly and spread it across the floor and leave it to dry for about 15 minutes. The cement should be sticky enough before you lay the tiles. Tiles should not be slid but kept gently adjusting the cement. 
The process of laying tiles is easy but requires patience.
