Installing Ceramic Floor Tile

Can you install ceramic tile over vynil floor without ripping it up.whats a good mastic to use??

I have old ASBESTOS vynil AND NO CONTRATOR WILL TOUCH IT,SO I WANT TO PUT MY TILE RIGHT OVER TOP,NO PROBLEM.right??

You can lay tile over vinyl. You'll need to lay cement backer board on first. This prevents cracking and provides structural integrity fo the floor. 1/4 in. is plenty. Go get your backer board and cut to fit the room. Leave 1/4 to 1/2 gaps between the wall and your backerboard. After the boards are dry fitted, apply thinset mortar mix. Lay the boards over the mortar. Screw down the backerboard with the appropriate screws (cement backerboard screws.) On the backerboard joints apply fiberglass drywall tape. Mud over with thinset on your joints and the 1/4-1/2 gaps. You are now ready to lay tile. Remember that the finished product will be substantially higher than before. Use a transition piece that allows for this.
