installation of ceramic tile

What is a reasonable price per square foot for installation of 4 "x 4" ceramic in the shower?

I will be installing 8 "x10" ceramic wall tiles on cement board. Any suggestions on if I use thinset mortar or mastic? Is there any advantage in using one over the other? I have not hung yet.I cement panels Durock believe that the instructions say to leave the smooth side out for putty, with the rough side out for mortar. However, I also read that some people will do a thin layer of mortar prior to installation, it refuses to leave the rough side out for mortar? I appreciate any advice.

Absolutely DO NOT use mastic or "PREMIXED" thinset [actually no more than Putty] in your tub surround. Let no one say otherwise would not know what they're talking about. Mastic taking 6-12 months to "dry" and after a year, the things will be pretty solid. Even after being thoroughly dried, when exposed to a constant stream of water [do not think your grout, sealed or not, is resistant water, NO es] things will return to emulsify. I have seen re-emulsified mastic, not a pretty sight - it becomes a sticky mess. Here is one of many horror stories about mastic and showers [this is a tile forum run by a group of friendly experts tile] http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47930&highlight=mastic go to this page and bread to the last link in the first inning: http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=5434 and buy the thinset degree of economic, buy HD Premium Vesabond which costs about $ 16 bags of 25 pounds. On the subject skim coat. please call the people burning in a layer applied very thin thinset on the wall with a flat paddle, just before loading and spreading ridges. It is intended to ensure that you have a coverage of 100% in the wall [sometimes ridged palette not obtain 100%]. Float also advise on the backs of the tiles if they have deep grooves. Want to avoid gaps [airbags] as much as possible. You may want to look "Redguard" while you're looking at the tile forum. It is a waterproofing membrane in a can that "painting" in the CBU. Good stuff for the DIY'er
