How do I put ceramic tile down on a floor that is not completely flat and even?

I want to lift linoleum in my kitchen and left 12 X 12 ceramic or marble. However, my floor is not entirely level, sinks and tilts at different locations. I have broken the linoleum without But to see how bad it is, but I know that has nails in it and some have used through the linoleum. What should I do to level the surface the floor and begin to set the tiles? Thanks in advance for all answers!

Have you checked to see if the sub-(ie particle board plant, Hardibacker) who placed the linen is not rotten or not in any way? If so, you need to replace your floor and then will have to establish tile. The other option would be to try self-leveling compound, which is a wonderful product to get your floor, even.
