The Beauty Of Glass Tiles

Glass tile is one of the most attractive tiling materials in use in homes today. It comes in many different shapes, sizes and colors, far beyond the small mosaic type glass tiles that most people think of when glass tiling is mentioned.

Here are just a few of the many attractive glass tile options well worth considering to add something new to the overall look of your home.

Clear Glass Tile

These tiles are not colorless, the name simple means that once installed you can see right through the tile to the backing. Clear glass tiles have a higher gloss and shine than other types of glass tile but you do have to consider whether what will be behind them once installed will detract from their elegant appearance.

Frosted Glass Tile

These are opaque tiles that appear very flat. If the wall behind them is less than attractive they are often a better solution than their clear glass cousins in terms of overall aesthetic appeal.

Bubble Glass Tile

During the manufacturing process small (or sometimes large) air bubbles are deliberately allowed to form in the glass to give the tiles a unique and rather textured appearance.

Crystal Tile

Mainly used as an accent this kind of glass tile, which mimics the look of gemstones imparts a certain sense of elegance and opulence.

Recycled Glass Tile

Although it is made mainly of old beer and soda bottles, recycled glass tile is fair from unattractive or boring. In fact, as well as being the ultimate in green tiling, recycled glass tile is also some of the most beautiful.

Glass tiles are tougher than you might imagine but, in order for them to look as attractive as they should, unless you have done a lot of tiling before their installation is best left to a professional.  Mistakes with tile glue or grout that you may be able to get away with if using ceramic or stone tiling will unfortunately be glaringly obvious (and very unattractive) when using glass tile.
