Is it OK to stick the tiles on a formica counter pre-existing solid?

I a countertop Formica have pre-existing kitchen in excellent condition. The wife can not stand the color and want to tile. Is glued on the counter and then click OK existing grout?

Ive been in the cabinet makeing biz. for 24 years and I'm so tired of people called a laminate surface, "Formica." Formica is one of several brands of plastic laminate. Art Wilson, Pionites, and Nevamar are the other well known brands. As for your question, yes you can do, and I've seen it done on several occasions. I personally recommend wouldnt. Your best bet is to carefully remove the exsisting tapas bar. This should be relatively easy, which is usually screwed into the bottom side of the cabinets. A sometimes stuck, I never hit me, but if this is the case, again, carefully, remove the release of the cabinets with a bar "flat." The idea is to get them out One piece, obviously you want to remove plumbing, sinks, stoves, and anything else that is installed on the top / tops before beginning.
