What can I do about this tile?

I have this tile in the kitchen and two small bathrooms. Part of this is falling edges, and there are some cracks and spaces between them. What most bothers me is the color and dirt with it. I am renting, so it can not replace him, and the homeowner also refuses a. Is there anything I can do to make it look better, more modern, perhaps? I feel your pain - that ugly vinyl floor tiles of the 1950s and 60s was in several of my last apartments and even in the two rooms of the house I bought a few years ago, now under the carpetting (I am going to cover with wooden floors this winter.) Do not try painting - Trust me, it will be worse (as already tried that.) One of the suggestions that I used to cover flooring that is what they call "back glass" or "no glue vinyl flooring which is available at the Home Depot of Lowes. It is the floor vinyl that comes in a roll, but is more rigid than normal things and not be stuck. Everything we do is cut to shape and then put some tape around the edges and in the center and roll outward. It is much simpler than laminate (which I guess some people are going to tell you to use) and requires no other tools of a knife or a pair of shears. The designs are really attractive - some even have the look and texture of wood and stone tiles. They genuinely believe seem real. In fact, I have used the wood grain to my rooms, except they are 14 'square and the vinyl only comes in 6' and 12 'wide. When your lease it can even tell the owner that is neither pull it (the tape will not damage the tile of age) and leave the floors so that you found or you can pay part of the cost of vinyl records and you leave it in hope that would pay for it, because it will look much better.
