Ceramic Tile Underlayment

underlayment and ceramic tiles?

I came across an alternative to concrete breakerboad that I can't identify. I appears to be foam sandwiched by a rubberized type of compound. Any ideas?

I'd go with the concrete backerboard. The idea of the stuff is to give a solid, rigid surface that the mortar can grip. If it flexes, the tiles will move, the grout and mortar will crack, and any water on the floor will percolate down to the subfloor underneath, causing problems with rot. A rubberized anything sounds too flexible to me.
