Painting Ceramic Tile - How To
If you want to redecorate your kitchen or bathroom and have the old fashioned ceramic tile you have two options. You can remove the tile and replace it with new tile or, you can pain it. If the ceramic tile you want to paint is not in an area where it gets wet painting it is feasible. However, if the tile you want painted is in the shower or other part of the room where it will get wet than it is not advisable to paint it. It could be painted, but it requires a special kind of paint and a professional that know how to use that paint, in order for the job to be done right.
To paint ceramic tile that will not be wet do the following: paint will not stick to a shiny surface so we need to remove the shine. With a mild abrasive cleaner clean the tiles as aggressively as you can. This will get rid of some of the shine. At this point also remove and loose grout, broken tiles or anything else that may deteriorate or otherwise harm the paint job. Now remove the rest of the shine with an orbital sander and fine sandpaper. If you do not have an orbital sander you can either rent one or sand the tiles down by hand. Remove all of the shine, but do not leave any marks on the tile as they will show from under the paint. Be sure every part of the tiles is sanded including the corners. If there is any shine the paint will not stick to it. Be sure to dust the surface thoroughly.
The primer should be oil based and the best primer you can buy. This is the foundation of your paint job. Use a brush to cut the corners and a short hair brush to do the flat surface.
Do not use a latex paint as it has a tendency to peel. Use a good oil based semi gloss or high gloss paint. Apply several thin coats of paint instead of one thick one for a quality finish. Be sure to have plenty of cleaning rags and thinner to clean up your tools and the area when you are through.

Ceramic tile can chip be repaired?
I have a white ceramic tile (with decorative inside corner in a matching) is very old and I will not be able to find replacements for and do not want to replace. Is it a service usually offered / you can do with them using paints, cement of some kind? The damages are small brown spots on plates have fallen, from children, etc.. line with a few hair cracks resolution home. There are no major pieces missing or anything but an area I was wondering if big plays because the work is available as I really, really hate to finance a new apartment and I'm very fond of this pattern and I'm not willing to invest the time and money it would take to hunt down this tile.
I was so excited when I saw your question, because that's something that happened to me a lot too, and this is my secret formula to fix the cracks or dents on the tiles, travertine or granite. Are you ready? Use colored pencils, pastel artist (the wholesale craft store) and grind up one or more of the appropriate colors, mixing the powder with up to get the right tone. Then mix a little of that in two-part epoxy clear and complete crack. Trust me it's easy if you practice on a piece of cardboard a couple of times to get the right tone, and then apply to your tile. Wipe with a damp cloth before it dries to level out, and help the pen out what is not so bright ceramic tiles. This fix also works on laminate countertops, but not as good as buying the right color repair epoxy laminate sold by the manufacturer. There is a product on the market sold specifically for the presentation of travertine tile, but limited to brown or beige color, so using pastel pencils gives you many more options. And the cakes are less than $ 10 for a large set with maybe 40 colors, while the epoxy will cost around $ 5. The best part is that when have finished with it, you can give the cakes to the children to draw. (Subject to monitor how are you things is oil based and non-washable) Chips in Granite Countertops are easy to fill with epoxy, and of course the best option for employers as they probably will not notice. Epoxy make vertical service is a little thicker if the chip is in a corner and liquid epoxy is best for filling cracks. Mohawk also makes epoxy color tones of wood sticks that can be used to fill divets cracks in wood, but some colors that work well for tile. It comes in a stick and break a piece and mix with your hands to activate.
