ceramic tile over wood subfloor

Ceramic tile flooring Sub ...... ...... remodel??

Okay Here's the deal, I'm getting ready to remodel my bathroom and I was doing a little demo to see what I'm against. I caught a small section of the tile in the bathroom to see what type i have to subfloor. The only one I have planned timber is diagonally across the joists. Sooooo my question is what I have to put another floor (ie, plywood) that before it can replace with linoleum Thile or is there another "thing" that has to go down instead of wood??? A few side notes, I'm not doing this for myself, my cousin is a general contractor and is doing to me. I just have to go to Lowes and buy all materials and had to purchase palnned basement, but now I see they already have a basement (duh) I have to put more wood on top. Only the creation of a shopping list. Any help is apperciated! Thanks!

Yes, you need a smooth layer of wood as a subfloor. To lay a sheet of vinyl you have - you will see the pattern of wood telegrams through the vinyl.

More and more homes come on the market function of radiant heating and cooling systems to heat and cool the soil. There's nothing like having the meet a floor cold feet warm and cozy on a cold day. A radiant heating system or cooling system can make it happen through a variety techniques.

The three types of radiant floor heating systems are radiant air floors (air is the transport medium heat), underfloor heating electric hot water and underfloor heating. Installation materials vary from flat slab of concrete, lightweight concrete on a wood subfloor, and the tube connected or inserted into the ground.

Because air can not hold large amounts of heat, radiant air floors are not profitable in residential, and seldom installed.

Radiant power plants using integrated electrical cables in the floor to create the heat. The systems feature mats of electrically conductive plastic are also available, and are mounted on the ground below a floor covering such as tile.

Due to the relatively high cost of electricity, electric radiant floors are only useful if it can be used to heat a large body capable of retaining heat. This large thermal mass (concrete floor slab or concrete) can be heated electrically to "tip off" to reduce costs. Off-peak fares power are usually charged 9-6 The heat stored in the ground, then you can keep a home warm during most of the day.

Water central hot water or work with underfloor heating fluid for temperature control. Liquid systems are the most popular and cost-effective radiant heating systems. Underfloor heating systems power plants pump hot water from a boiler through a tube placed in a model under the floor. In some systems, temperature Each room can be controlled separately by regulating the flow of hot water through each tubing loop. This is done through the use of valves or pumps and thermostats.

Pottery is the word most common and effective covering for radiant floor heating because the soil conducts heat well as thermal storage because of its high heat capacity. Common floor coverings like vinyl and linoleum, carpet or wood can also be used, but any coverage that helps insulate the living room floor will reduce system efficiency.

If carpeting is used, should be a thin carpet Dense padding. Water flowing under the covered floor needs to be hotter to compensate for the flooring. If the wood floor is the option, you must laminate flooring of wood instead of solid wood to reduce the possibility of reducing the cracking wood and dry heat.

Cooling of the soil is usually combined with an air conditioning system to achieve and maintain a comfortable temperature and to address air quality problems. This method also merge be more energy efficient and above all, help control the moisture created by the word cooling process.

Beaming reduces the temperature absorption cooling of the heat from the rest of the room.

Most applications of radiant cooling in house United States are based on aluminum panels suspended from the ceiling or floor. Ice water is then circulated through the panels. To be effective, the panels must be kept at a temperature near the dew point, and the house must be kept dehumidified. In very humid climates, increased humidity, simply by opening a door outside can enable change in temperature enough to create condensation. This is particularly true when a floor is covered by heavy rugs.

The costs of installing radiant cooling system is considered high if using aluminum panels. Radiant cooling costs rise even higher when combined with a central air conditioning to control humidity. A radiant cooling system is more economical if an existing system already exists underfloor heating. A recent Department of Energy study showed that the morning of concrete slab cooling a home, combined with night ventilation, could change the Most of the cooling load of a home at rush hour, reducing electricity demand and reduce costs.

Given the high prices that contractors charge for ceramic tile jobs, many homeowners would undoubtedly consider installing it themselves, if they had the proper guidance. Also in the last ten to fifteen years, tile used in new homes is often glued to nothing more than plasterboard. The life expectancy of this type of installation is generally less than two or three years, which means that homeowners must pay to have the tile torn out and redone-an expensive proposition. Now, John P. Bridge comes to the rescue, providing do-it-yourselfers with all of the information they need to complete ceramic tile projects with long lasting, professional results. Bridge begins with a brief discussion of the tools of the trade, materials required, and various types of masonry tile. Readers will then find easy-to-follow instructions for installing floors, tub surrounds, walls, and counter tops. Bridge takes readers step-by-step through the entire process, from surface preparation, layout, and design to setting the tile, grouting, and finishing
