How to choose your kitchen or bathroom tiles DIY

Planning and improving your bathroom or kitchen is not always an easy task. You are full of enthusiasm, but they face a lot of options. The choice of ceramic tiles is puzzling. In general, color, design and budget are the key factors affecting their choice. However, I would add one more factor "technical features." Remember that all the pictures of labeled as "ceramics" are not the same. In fact, some pictures of natural minerals such as slate or marble sometimes use the same terminology.

Most people are tiles tiles - is not it? But no! You need to know that there are at least two kinds of ceramic tiles, tiles and wall tiles. What makes them different is' technical performance. They are usually ceramic, both can be glass with a surface both can be bright and colorful designs. But do not have the same performance techniques in use!

Wall tiles

Wall tiles are usually porous (in back) and have a high gloss lacquer finish on the face. This allows them to be sanitary, easy to clean and do not absorb moisture in the face when exposed to moist conditions in bathrooms and kitchens. However, in the manufacture normally fired in a rapid-fire oven in less than a hour. This means they have limited strength, abrasion and slip resistance.

Floor tiles

In contrast pictures ground shoot at a higher temperature usually with a special enamel coating. This gives a much larger force, abrasion and slip resistance. It is clear this gives advantages when used under the feet when stronger tiles are less likely to crack, scratch or wear and slip resistance. Indeed, a set of standards must be met for the tiles that are considered suitable for floor use. So choose wisely for your location. Floor tiles for floors, and walls wall!

Color and finishing

A second consideration is finished tiles and color. Although this is usually down to taste each, for a better performance slip tiles have a matte or gloss matte texture. wall tiles can have a great wide range of textures and brightness, but finished thinner is generally easier to clean than a textured finish. Note that although most tables are supplied in a matching box in the design and color are not the same!

Quality

Probably the most important aspect is the quality tile manufacturing. This not easy to assess. It means how strong they are? How long will they last? How flat are they (the frames warp during manufacture)? What How easy is it to install?

Although most of the tables provided by accredited providers are manufactured to European standard or American BSEN14411 ASTM equivalent is not obvious by the amount that exceeds these standards. In Europe, the CE mark is a sign of quality adopted by the manufacturers of tiles. established brands such as Marazzi or porcelain are constantly pushing the boundaries to produce products that exceed expectations in terms of consistent quality, design and performance.

Summary

In short, take a little time to choose the right kind of tiles for the job. Look for the CE or BS on the packaging as a sign of meeting a quality standard. Use quality branded products, if possible with the frequency that give better performance in use and are designed to easy installation.
