Tips For Installing Self-Adhesive Floor Tile

Self adhesive vinyl floor tile is about the quickest, cheapest and easiest way for the average person to have a new, beautiful floor in a matter of hours.  That's right....hours.

This IS if the surface you're laying on is clean, smooth and dry.  The adhesive on the back of self-adhesive vinyl flooring is sufficient to hold the tile in place without help from any additional adhesive- just as long as the surface it's being installed upon is clean, smooth and dry.

This brings up one very frequently asked question: Is extra adhesive recommended?  The answer to that is DEFINITELY NO!  The manufacturer of the tile is experienced enough to know how to apply the right kind of adhesive to the product in order to make it stick for AT LEAST the duration of the warranty.  Additionally, it's important to understand that not all adhesives are compatible.  That means the chemical properties vary from one adhesive to the next and will very likely not blend.  This will render BOTH adhesives useless and will void the tile's warranty!  So don't do it.  Instead, spend the extra time and money preparing the surface....CLEAN, SMOOTH AND DRY!!!

Cracks, nail holes, dirt, and grease must be eliminated for best adhesion and a long-lasting tile floor installation.

Another frequently-asked question: will the tile work on my cemtent basement or garage floor?

Answer: Yes...and the same rules apply-clean, smooth and dry.  We have lots and lots of customers all over the country who love our solid black and solid white tile combination for the garage floor.  The checkerboard combination is really popular again as well as for people who have a 50' motif.

im putting down self adhesive vinyl floor tile.....????????

on to ceramic tile and was told by ace hardware to use "acryl pro ceramic tile adhesive " ive layed a few tiles but i dont think its right. need some help, is this the correct procedure?????

Acryl Pro is used to put Ceramic tile down, not vinyl tile. If you already have Ceramic tile on the floor, it has to be smooth before you can put down the vinyl tile. If you have any bumps or dips, it will show up after you walk on it for a while. If it is smooth, Henry's makes a vinyl tile prep that you put down on the floor to help hold the tile down better. You can find it at Lowe's. If you have bumps and dips, you will have to either pull up the old Ceramic and start over, or put down a new subfloor.
